Ian Janiel Denton, commonly known as Avocado Ian, is one of the three main mascots of the remix tree, along with his sister Paula Denton, and Toast Michaelwaver. He was the OC of an unknown Scratch user who was added to the remix world by fishfritters due to the machinations of Xx_warriercatz_xX; baffled and jaded by the remix tree at first, over time he seemed to soften, revealing an antsier personality.

He is Anina Arquaz's boyfriend, and due to Paula's antics he is married to Toast.

Stand

Crazy Filthy Bizarre Echoes

Ian's main Stand, Crazy Filthy Bizarre Echoes / Reverb in US Releases Ultra Total Xtreme Meltdown Burn Frost Zoom Remix Takedown Extreme Edition at a Reasonable Price Act 5 – or just Crazy Filthy Bizarre Echoes for short – has the power to alter any number in existence. Anything that can be quantified in a number can be edited by Crazy Filthy Bizarre Echoes, and if this makes it seem ridiculously overpowered, that's because it is. The number appears on-screen as a Scratch slider variable.

Its only depicted instance of use is when Avocado Ian wanted to alter Xx_warriercatz_xX's talking speed. He called out the entire name of the Stand in order to to summon it; it's unclear if Ian has to do this every time.

Jacie Denton

Ian's secondary Stand, Jacie Denton, is a sentient Stand, based on a combination of JC Denton from Deus Ex and Sissel from Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. He exists not in the physical remix world, but in the World of the Dead, though he can view the physical world and interact with it using his Stand power: the ability to move himself between objects in the physical world, allowing him to possess objects and manipulate them. [2]

He was created when Paula used Crazy Remic to remix Ian's dying body; he woke up in the World of the Dead and was guided by a mysterious voice who explained his power to him, and helped him play a part in defeating Xx_warriercatz_xX. Initially, he believed he was Ian, but the mysterious voice later clarified his identity, and he resolved to help Paula out, seeing as his Stand User was dead.[2] Ian was later revived, and Jacie's current status is unclear.[3]

History

Creation

Avocado Ian was an OC created by an unknown Scratch user in real life, who submitted him to an OC reviewer on Scratch. The reviewer gave him a high rating, sparking jealousy in Matthew Rockefeller, whose OCs had received a low rating. Matthew decided to take revenge by trapping the highest-rated OCs inside a world of insanity; using their Stand, they created the remix tree, which contained a fictional universe where Ian and the other highest-rated OCs lived. From Ian's perspective, he had always lived in this fictional remix world, and now the absurdity was simply ramping up as the Scratch users portrayed more and more ridiculous things in their projects.[3]

School life

Ian went to school with his sister Paula, and they often had to deal with the school bully, Shannon. One particular incident involved Shannon infecting the siblings with bad 2018-era memes, which Ian only cured with the help of the school principal, W.B. Mason. The duo went to Holly Wood, the source of the infection. After a brief interruption by Noriaki Kakyoin, Holly gave them a cure, but Ian crashed his Ferrari, and the fire burned the pill bottle. Ian was instead cured when they found a cow, whose milk Ian drank and was cured by, in true Minecraft fashion. Presumably, Ian used the milk to cure Paula afterwards as well.[4]

The insanity begins

Toast and a bewildered Ian watch the bus pass by them at the bus stop.[1]

Ian was waiting for the bus at a bus stop in Ian's home, along with Paula and a stranger who he would later discover was named Toast.[1] However, when the bus arrived, it drove past them and flew away, much to his bewilderment; all he could muster was "shut the up".[5]

Ian later found himself in a strange yellow void. He and Paula discovered an evil plot by Toast, who hypnotized him and made him attempt to kill Paula; however, she successfully defeated Toast, and the two siblings happily went onto another adventure.[6] Along with Toast and Paula, he would go on to experience several other wacky remix shenanigans, such as:

  • Going through a distorted version of the three's home world[7]
  • Acting out Deus Ex memes[8]
  • Inexplicably shooting Toast[8]
  • The last two bullet points again but this time in ASMR[9]

All of this made him bewildered and exasperated[5], and he realized something was wrong and that certain events were repeating. When he realized this, the remix tree seemed to temporarily rewind to a previous project, and Ian found himself in the wastelands; however, when he went into the house's door, he was greeted with the Jake Paul store, and suddenly it was back to inanity[9]. He found himself shooting Toast again, and attempted to escape and find his way back to his homeland[5], but was confronted by distorted versions of Paula and Toast and had to escape into space.[10]

In space, he confronted Jake Paul's space fleet, and was able to destroy it. When he finally got back home with Paula, he discovered that things were different than he remembered: apparently Jake Paul had been tormenting his land for centuries, and now he was being hailed as a hero known as the Silent Wind[10]. All of this baffled him so much that he decided to record some tapes documenting his experiences, hoping the denizens of his hometown would listen and believe the strange things he had experienced.[5]

Return to absurdity

He and Paula later returned to the insanity of the remix tree; the two appeared with Killer Queen in a Five Nights at Freddy's parody, attacking the player[5], and there was also a version of this where the only enemy was multiple copies of Ian[11]. The trio of Killer Queen, Paula, and Ian would continue into the next few remices, where the three cosplayed Pillar Men from JoJo's[12], then characters from Shrek[13], and celebrated ZiqwerkelSharda's birthday[14]. Ian even got featured in his own clicker game.[15]

Crazy Noisy Showdown

One day, he, Paula and Toast were hanging out at the Crazy Noisy Street Corner, and Paula struck up a conversation about Ian, which led to Ian revealing that he was in love with Anina Arquaz.[16] Paula was skeptical given Anina's previous murderous tendencies, but he was indifferent, and Toast didn't really understand the situation.[17]

Xx_warriercatz_xX, aka Matthew, prepares to shoot Ian.[2]

Suddenly, they were approached by Xx_warriercatz_xX, who complained about how chaotic the remix tree had gotten, and pulled a gun on the trio.[17] They then claimed that Ian was the source of the tree's chaos, as proved by his tapes which proved he remembered everything that had happened to him up to that point; this meant that shooting Ian was the only way to end the chaos. They shot Ian, and Paula used Crazy Remic on his dying body, which created a Stand: Jacie Denton.[2]

Waking up in the World of the Dead believing he was Ian, Jacie was guided by a mysterious voice who showed him how to use his Stand power to help Paula defeat Xx_warriercatz_xX. He did so, possessing a can and causing it to fly at them, which threw them off for long enough for Paula to KO them with Crazy Remic. The mysterious voice then clarified Jacie's identity to him, and he resolved to help Paula, seeing as his Stand User was dead.[2]

Ian was revived by Toast, who used Don't Bring Me Down to contort his body to be alive again. Along with Paula and Toast, Ian then listened to Xx_warriercatz_xX rant about how they had been the one to create the remix tree in reality, but Paula requested Ian use Crazy Filthy Bizarre Echoes to fast-forward it, and he did. The three went to go get ham sandwiches, but were stopped by Killer Queen, who rewound time to Paula's childhood using Milkcan Bites the Dust.[3]

Annoying the Guitaf

The Guitaf was constantly plagued by duplicates of Ian, which caused it to change in form and become more distorted.[18] In fact, on one occasion, the Guitaf's distortion led it to turn into Ian, at which point he started talking about how hot Yeong-Gi from I Love Yoo was.[19] Eventually, it was covered in so many copies of Ian that it died,[20] as Ian screamed about Sans from Undertale.[21] He'd eaten one too many Hershey's Kisses, and couldn't control his motion at all; finding himself on a dock, the evil fake BMO attacked him using projectiles, and the Guitaf was able to defend him.[22]

Life in the remix world

At one point, he annoyed Toast into coming to the park. Toast realized that some people might ship them together, and Ian was freaked out by this, but Paula thought it sounded cute.[23] The two were again tormented by Paula's shipping while trying to play a game of X-Plane, and despite protests, Paula willed their wedding into existence. Minako Aino, Okuyasu Nijimura, Dio Brando, Utena Tenjou, and L Lawliet all attended.[24]

He later shot Toast similarly to how he did the first time, but this time he used a Boyng Brand Gum, a much safer form of gun. After shooting Toast, he turned into a car and started driving through the remix world, following a fire truck to a burning house, then going onto an open computer in said house in order to view the remix tree. Venturing through the remix tree, he eventually made his way into the project Gordon vs. the FAA, and turned into an airplane as he entered an airport. As an airplane, he flew to the dance floor in Consequence City, where he was confronted by distorted versions of Paula, Toast, and Vradia la Serket. He escaped into space, and fought and defeated Chick Hicks, Mater, Luigi, and Lightning McQueen.[25]

Back in Ian's hometown with Toast and his sister, he watched Airbus pass by and hold a conversation with Toast. He turned into the sun and started yelling obnoxiously, distracting Toast from the conversation; eventually, he revealed himself, and attempted to explain what had happened. However, before he could do so, he was startled by Toast extending his arm, at which point Toast launched Ian far away.[26]

Relationships

Anina Arquaz

Initially, Ian and Anina had a rocky relationship, as Anina tried to kidnap[16] and later kill[17] Ian while he was doing mundane tasks. However, Ian was somehow able to forgive this; he fell in love with Anina,[16] and started spending lots of time with her.[17]

Guitaf

The Guitaf was constantly swarmed by Avocado Ian's ghostly image, and each time Ian's image would pass over it, it got more distorted.[27] At one point, Ian even turned the Guitaf into himself,[19] and later on the sheer amount of copies of Ian straight-up killed the Guitaf.[20] Ian later used the Guitaf to defend himself from BMO.[22]

Conjectures can be made, but ultimately the Guitaf's opinion on pretty much any of this is unclear – Ian, however, seems to see Guitaf as a friend.[28]

Killer Queen

Ian and Killer Queen spent lots of time together; they cosplayed[12] and celebrated ZiqwerkelSharda's birthday together.[14] Paula Denton was with them for most of these. However, KQ's opinion of Ian soured around the time the siblings started spending more time with Toast Michaelwaver; Killer Queen called them "Lakewood Lozerz" and trying to use its Stand against them,[3] although Ian later referred to KQ as a friend nonetheless.[28]

Matthew Rockefeller

Matthew hates Ian due to being rated so highly above their own OC Gloryclaw, and brought him into the remix tree as a form of revenge; though upset by the chaos of the tree at first, Ian eventually got used to it.[3] However, the two maintain a strained relationship, with Ian mostly seeing Matthew as a threat. The main encounter between the two saw Matthew outright killing Ian,[2] and after the traumatic experience was over, Ian seemed uninterested in Matthew more than anything else.[3] Seeing as Matthew softened on the remix world over time,[29] they probably have a more mild opinion of Ian these days, but Ian still recoils at their name.[28]

Paula Denton

Paula and Ian are siblings,[5] and the two hang out often along with Toast Michaelwaver, considering each other good friends. Paula has a lot of affection for the two of them, and tends to take control of situations involving the three; this can manifests as protectiveness in dangerous situations,[17] or overenthusiastically shipping both Toast and Ian in spite of their wants.[24]

Pico Pascal

The details of Pico and Ian's relationship are relatively vague, but they seem to be friends. Ian is happy to have Pico around,[28] and when Pico was stuck on a beach, Ian helped him find the way out.[30]

Shannon

During their school days, Shannon often bullied Ian and Paula, at one point infecting them with bad memes. Ian hated her due to her various dastardly deeds.[4]

Toast Michaelwaver

Toast and Ian both lived in Ian's home, but didn't seem to know each other very well. When the duo were brought into the insanity of the remix world, Ian was very hesitant to accept Toast as an ally due to the fact that Toast was hypnotizing Ian and later giving him and his sister Paula orders. In fact, Ian actually shot Toast, though Ian was quite discombobulated at the time. Eventually, they stopped being paired up quite so much, with Killer Queen taking Toast's place.[5]

Later on, their dynamic changed; he and Paula started hanging out with Toast a lot instead of Killer Queen, and the trio became good friends.[16] Toast and Ian in particular started hanging out a lot together,[23] often playing flight sims.[24] The pair's bond was strengthened by their mutual experiences of the Crazy Noisy Showdown, notably when Toast revived Ian after the latter was killed by Xx_warriercatz_xX.[3]

Despite all this, Toast is still quick to react badly to things he perceives as Ian's misdemeanors, namely identity theft.[26] This distance between the two is reflected in their opinion about a romantic relationship: despite Paula's overenthusiasm towards the subject, they're resistant to it, and reacted badly when Paula willed their wedding into existence.[24]

W.B. Mason

WB was principal at Ian's school, and Ian idolized him even before he knew WB was the principal. After Ian found this out, they turned out to be very good collaborators, managing to heal a bad meme infection together with the help of Holly Wood.[4]

Trivia

  • His name in the code of r/CursedScratchProjects, his first appearance, was "tennisball".
  • The name "Avocado Ian" was a reference to a story turtlehat, fishfritters, and ZiqwerkelSharda had recently written, which featured a character named Avocado Man. It was changed to Avocado Ian to match Paula's cries of "Ian!" in the audio of the plural of remix is remices.
  • His last name was added when he was featured in a parody of the Deus Ex Malkavian Mod; because he took the place of a character named "JC Denton", he was given the last name Denton as well.
  • Both Avocado Ian and Paula's middle names are based on the D'Arby brothers from JoJo's, taking the first name of one of them and replacing the first letter with another one of their initials. Ian's is taken from "Daniel J. D'Arby", while Paula's is taken from "Telence T. D'Arby" (purposefully using a strange romanization of "Terrence"). Daniel Delence Darby's name references the same characters.
  • ZiqwerkelSharda picked his birthday based on the date of National Avocado Day.
  • His main personality was first featured in Despito the Musical - Vanilla on Ice! HD 180p Trailer, an explicit parody of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable. Ian took the place of Koichi Hirose, and his antsy personality is thus based on Koichi's.
