Toast M Michaelwaver, middle name Muppy in Pongland, is one of the three main mascots of the remix tree, along with Paula Denton and Avocado Ian. He was the OC of an unknown Scratch user, who was added to the remix world by fishfritters due to the machinations of Xx_warriercatz_xX; his design is based on Nano.

Toast's main Stand, Don't Bring Me Down (also previously referred to as The Hand) takes the form of Toast's extended, distorted hand, and has the power of contorting body parts. The full range of its power isn't entirely known, but it was able to bring Avocado Ian back from death by way of "contorting his brain and [making] it alive."

Toast can also extend and enlarge his distorted arm, and use it to fling people; it's unclear if this is part of his Stand ability, or a simple physical ability of his arm.

History

Creation

Toast was an OC created by an unknown Scratch user in real life, who submitted him to an OC reviewer on Scratch. The reviewer gave him a high rating, sparking jealousy in Matthew Rockefeller, whose OCs had received a low rating. Matthew decided to take revenge by trapping the highest-rated OCs inside a world of insanity; using their Stand, they created the remix tree, which contained a fictional universe where Toast and the other highest-rated OCs lived. From Toast's perspective, he had always lived in this fictional remix world, and now the absurdity was simply ramping up as the Scratch users portrayed more and more ridiculous things in their projects.

The insanity begins

In his home land, Toast was waiting for the bus at the bus stop, and asked the two strangers there, Paula and Ian, how to turn off his toaster. When the bus arrived, it simply flew away without picking any of them up.

Toast hypnotizes Ian to kill Paula.

Toast was then transported to somewhere new, where he enacted an evil plot inside of a strange yellow void. After Ian and Paula discovered it, he hypnotized Ian and made him attempt to kill Paula; however, she successfully defeated Toast by turning off his toaster, and he disappeared. The three would go on to experience several other wacky remix shenanigans, such as:

• Going through a distorted version of the three's hometown
• Acting out Deus Ex memes
• Inexplicably being shot by Ian
• Acting out Deus Ex memes but in ASMR

Crazy Noisy Showdown

One day, he, Paula, and Ian were hanging out at the Crazy Noisy Street Corner, and Paula struck up a conversation about Ian, which led to him revealing that he was in love with Anina. Paula was skeptical given Anina's previous murderous tendencies, but Ian was indifferent, and Toast didn't really understand the situation. Suddenly, they were approached by Xx_warriercatz_xX, who complained about how chaotic the remix tree had gotten, and pulled a gun on the trio.. Toast watched as Xx_warriercatz_xX shot Ian, and Paula took them down with the help of Jacie Denton

Toast managed to revive Ian by using Don't Bring Me Down to contort Ian's body to be alive again. The trio then listened to Xx_warriercatz_xX rant about how they had been the one to create the remix tree in reality, but Ian fast-forwarded through their rant with his Stand. The three went to go get ham sandwiches, but were stopped by Killer Queen, who rewound time to Paula's childhood using Milkcan Bites the Dust.

Life in the remix world

At one point, Ian annoyed him into coming to the park. Toast realized that some people might ship them together, and Ian was freaked out by this, but Paula thought it sounded cute. The two were again tormented by Paula's shipping while trying to play a game of X-Plane, and despite both of their protests, Paula willed their wedding into existence. Minako Aino, Okuyasu Nijimura, Dio Brando, Utena Tenjou, and L Lawliet all attended.

He was shot by Ian again, but this time by a Boyng Brand Gum, which was much safer; he later reappeared and approached Ian on the dance floor. With the Denton siblings, he returned to Ian's hometown; after watching Airbus pass by, he held a conversation with the player character through it. They held small talk for a while, involving Toast giving Airbus a lecture on identity theft; however, Toast was distracted throughout by a yelling red sun. The sun eventually revealed itself to be Avocado Ian, and Toast got so upset at Ian for doing identity theft that he extended his arm, grew it, and used it to toss Ian far away.

Trivia

• His name in the code of r/CursedScratchProjects, his first appearance, was "fella".
• In my head hurts, his name is given as "Toast M. Michaelwaver", prompting remixers to wonder what his middle name was. In 2022, ZiqwerkelSharda posted a poll with many suggested middle names, and the most-voted-for result was "M" – however, the responses to this result were negative, indicating that the poll's "choose 5 favorites" methodology was faulty. There has been no further consensus on Toast's middle name.
  • The options in the poll were Michaelwaver, Morbin', Middlename, Moriarty, Meckest, Moast, Miniature-Golf, MMMMMMMM, Myhooch, Mcampbellstomatosoup, Your Mom, Mitsubishi, Mymom, Maisie, Martyn, Math, MacMahon, Municipal, Matthew, Mathematics, and M.
• His birthday is March 19, which is the same date that turtlehat posted warriors amv tennis, beginning the remix tree as we know it today.
• His main personality was first featured in Despito the Musical - Vanilla on Ice! HD 180p Trailer, an explicit parody of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable. Toast took the place of the character Okuyasu Nijimura, and so his tendency towards confusion is based on said character.

Relationships

Anina Arquaz

Anina and Toast really don't know each other very well, as evidenced by the fact that, when Ian and Paula were discussing Anina, Toast had no idea what they talking about. However, since Ian and Anina started dating, it's possible they've gotten to know each other better.

Avocado Ian

Toast and Ian both lived in Ian's home, but didn't seem to know each other very well. When the duo were brought into the insanity of the remix world, Ian was very hesitant to accept Toast as an ally due to the fact that Toast was hypnotizing Ian and later giving him and his sister Paula orders. In fact, Ian actually shot Toast, though Ian was quite discombobulated at the time. Eventually, they stopped being paired up quite so much, with Killer Queen taking Toast's place.

Later on, their dynamic changed; he and Paula started hanging out with Toast a lot instead of Killer Queen, and the trio became good friends. Toast and Ian in particular started hanging out a lot together, often playing flight sims. The pair's bond was strengthened by their mutual experiences of the Crazy Noisy Showdown, notably when Toast revived Ian after the latter was killed by Xx_warriercatz_xX.

Despite all this, Toast is still quick to react badly to things he perceives as Ian's misdemeanors, namely identity theft. This distance between the two is reflected in their opinion about a romantic relationship: despite Paula's overenthusiasm towards the subject, they're resistant to it, and reacted badly when Paula willed their wedding into existence.

Killer Queen

For a while, Killer Queen entirely supplanted Toast's role as the third member of Paula and Ian's group. Eventually, Toast became the main third person in the friendgroup, and Killer Queen became antagonistic towards all three of them.

Matthew Rockefeller

Matthew hates Toast, Toast being one of the five highest-rated OCs that they swore vengeance against and trapped in the remix tree. When the two met in person, Toast was more confused than anything else about Matthew's motives, and just went along with how the others were reacting. However, he was without a doubt unsettled by Matthew's brief murdering of Avocado Ian.

Paula Denton

Paula and Toast lived in the same place for a while, though if they knew each other at all, Ian was entirely unaware of it. When they got dragged into the remix tree's chaos, Toast initially positioned himself as an enemy of Paula and Ian; Toast and Paula then seemed to have some kind of a boss–employer dynamic, before the Denton siblings eventually switched gears to spend more time with Killer Queen as opposed to Toast.

The relationship between Paula and Toast eventually softened, and they became friends, hanging out lots, along with Ian. Paula acts as a leader of sorts in the friend group; she reassures the other two and takes charge when needed, though this also means she can be a bit gung-ho in her attitudes towards them, such as willing their wedding into existence even though they aren't interested.
