Heh. I know it's cheating, but I survived, and that's all that matters, right?

Face the Consequences, also known as simply the Face, is a character in the remix tree. Originally the Stand of Matthew Rockefeller, it was instrumental to the creation of the tree and the world depicted therein, as the tool Matthew used to convince the Scratch users to start remixing. When Matthew's original digital avatar was destroyed, it struck a bargain with them and became an independent entity.

History

Creating the remix tree

While living in real life, Matthew Rockefeller became upset at a set of OCs for being higher-rated than Gloryclaw: Avocado Ian, Paula Denton, Toast Michaelwaver, Killer Queen, and Anina Arquaz. They decided to use their Stand to turn them all insane.[1] The seed was first planted when Face the Consequences used its powers of subconscious manipulation to cause ZiqwerkelSharda to create the first remix.[2]; this remix claimed to be a Warriors AMV, but in reality contained a depiction of Face the Consequences in the remix world screaming.[3] which in turn caused iangecko, turtlehat, and others to make more remices.[2]

In the digital fictional world of the project, also known as the remix world that Matthew had originally come from, Face the Consequences's screaming session took place in Consequence City, heralding the retroactive creation of the remix world and its history.[4] As the remixers continued to make projects, the in-universe Face the Consequences got more and more erratic: it started screaming unbearably loudly,[5] growing eyelashes and lipstick to signify a gender swap,[6], discovering Killer Queen in its mouth[7] and moving to the Wastelands only to be blown up by KQ.[8] After several instances of being blown up, it largely made its exit from the tree.

Time machine

It later made a resurgence, when Mercenary_Connor attempted to use a time machine to reverse the tree, only to find that he had instead summoned a reversed and upside-down version of the Face.[9] Things only got more absurd from there, with the Face's eyebrows turning into a mouth,[10] its visage being covered with scribbles and red patches,[11] it starting to spin as it was covered in all sorts of colors,[12] before eventually Mercenary_Connor changed his time machine's batteries, reverting it to normal.[13] This didn't last long before it started self-duplicating, whirling, and changing colors in front of the dancers, but Josuke Higashikata managed to turn it back to something roughly normal, although a bit faster-paced.[14]

Crazy Noisy Showdown

Matthew eventually confronted Paula, Ian, and Toast, in an attempt to put them out of their misery;[2] however, they were defeated by the duo of Paula and Jacie Denton.[15] Having been defeated, they told the trio their origin story, including how they'd used Face the Consequences to manipulate the Scratch users and create the remix tree; while they were outwardly delivering their ramble, Face the Consequences used its power to convince Matthew to release it such that it would be independent, no longer existing solely as their Stand.Cite error: Closing </ref> missing for <ref> tag it was without their Stand.[1] Face the Consequences instead made its appearance later, after remixing started up again and it perceived the remixers to have gotten out of control. It revealed itself to them, and declared it would get involved.[16]
