Phoogo, commonly referred to as Fugo, is an eldritch entity in the remix tree, introduced in the Phoogo Saga. Its base form is Nadia, but it constantly combines itself with more and more cursèd phenomena. Its presence is unbearable to many in the remix world as a result, most notably Franke.

It has its own country, Fugoslavia, which is populated entirely by Phoogos in various stages of distortion, as well as the butterflies which often appear nearby it.

History

Beginnings

Phoogo first asserted its presence near a grassy landscape where a triceratops and Panna99 were hanging out. They both fled the scene, but Panna99 left behind a trace: his name, Fugo, which was transferred to Phoogo in distorted form. It then revealed the first stage of its appearance, a combination of Nadia and Jean from Nadia: the Secret of Blue Water. A caption foretold that it would be featuring in the film "The End of Evangelion 2".[2] It then slept to the sound of the song "Sangenshoku" by Pelican Fanclub, as butterflies swarmed around it.[3]

Imprisonment

Phoogo was imprisoned behind a heavy door in the grim locale of the Fugoslavian prison. However, the player pressed a button to set it free; a butterfly tried to warn the player to escape, but Phoogo, with a grotesquely smiling face, confronted them both.[4] Later on, in the same prison, the player opened the door again, and this time the alarm system was prepared: the door was on a timer as a voice told the player to evacuate, but it was useless because there was no way of escape. When the timer ended and Phoogo released, its cursèdness had progressed further: it was now a spinning sphere.[5]

Phoogo hosts a concert.

Its destruction of escape routes was only the beginning: it would then proceed to make the prison its own in many other ways. Before long, the prison was shown to have its own concert stage, which Phoogo performed on (after fusing with the man from Alain le Lait's "Arc-en-ciel" music video),[6], and it even added an "upgrade" button so that the player was cornered into progressing its corruption further and fusing it with Vriska from Homestuck. It then trapped the player inside with it as it sang Megalovania with the lyrics of Arc-en-ciel. The whole time, the butterflies continued to swarm around it.[7]

Liberation

Phoogo managed to escape the prison, and featured in a travel brochure for Fugoslavia.[8]

When Frank started protesting against the omnipresence of Phoogo, it asserted to him that had no intention of budging. Copies of itself at various levels of corruption rained down upon him, ostensibly killing him.[9] Frank then turned into "Franke", gaining Linda's hair from Phineas and Ferb, and Phoogo became covered with a paper bag as it reënacted the "E.V.I.L.B.O.Y.S." song scene from the aforementioned show, or rather the literal translation of the song's Polish version. Its previous stages sang backup, while Nadian, a being made out of the original Nadia image and Vivian, encouraged the music to go on.[10] On a yacht with Franke, it rapped the same lyrics, and though Franke complained to Scratch Cat about it, Phoogo seemed entirely unphased by Franke's protests.[11]

Relationships

Frank

Phoogo is a constant source of torment for Frank; he listens to its shenanigans and participates in them, but begrudgingly and likely not out of choice.[10] He begs Phoogo to stop the cursèdness, to no avail,[9] even complaining to others about Phoogo.[11]

Pannacotta Fugo

When Phoogo initially asserted its presence in the remix world, Fugo was present, and thus the former was named after the latter. Fugo can barely cope with Phoogo's presence, and has a track record of running away from it.[2]

Trivia

  • Every stage of Phoogo is taken from memes and/or in-jokes between turtlehat and ZiqwerkelSharda.
    • The original image is a screenshot from the anime Nadia: the Secret of Blue Water, during a scene from the infamous "Island Arc". In the aforementioned scene, Nadia says the line "Incredible, Jean! You really are a genius!" over and over, to the point of unbearability.
    • The first edited stage is a red-and-white variant of the screenshot, the final one ZiqwerkelSharda made during a session of idly adding visual effects to the screenshot.
    • The second stage, i.e. the one initially depicted in the remix tree, combines the image of Nadia with a picture of Jean Roque Raltique, also from the Island Arc. During the scene it's taken from, Jean imbibes large quantities of water, taking on an inflated shape as a result. This scene is the first example of such cartoony antics in the series, making it infamous for heralding what was to come in the rest of Island Arc; Jean's inflated design is commonly referred to by the friendgroup as "Jean Jean Jean" due to a later musical flashback where the song lyrics "Jean! Jean! Jean!" play over the scene.
    • The third stage adds an overly-enthusiastic face to the mix; this face is taken from an image of the Popsicle, a plush popsicle with a disturbing facial expression that ZiqwerkelSharda would often stash inside of turtlehat's belongings as a prank.
    • The fourth stage applies the ever-amusing "spinning globe" effect to Phoogo.
    • The fifth stage combines Phoogo with a strange-looking man referred to only as "il" (he), in a French language teaching video by Alain le Lait entitled Couleurs.
    • The sixth stage adds Vriska Serket, an ever-controversial character from the webcomic Homestuck, to the mix. This version is entitled "Vradia la Serket", combining Vriska's name with Nadia's full name "Nadia la Arwol".
    • The seventh stage adds a bag over Phoogo's head, in reference to Candace from Phineas and Ferb, specifically the E.V.I.L B.O.Y.S sequence – or as Candace is known in the Polish dub, Fretka. Because the project this stage first appears in is a direct parody of a subtitled Polish version of E.V.I.L. B.O.Y.S., this version is known as "Frugka".
  • Phoogo's name was taken from the title of Phoogo can't TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!, because ZiqwerkelSharda misinterpreted the title as being about the cursèd entity in the project as opposed to being about Pannacotta Fugo. Because its name was taken directly from a comedic misspelling of Fugo, Phoogo is often referred to as simply "Fugo"; however, this wiki exclusively uses the misspelling for the cursèd entity's name in order to avoid ambiguity.
  • In the fictional dub of the remix tree, Phoogo is renamed Franko, unrelated to Franke.[1]
